Hello Biologists,
On Sunday, we received lots more information about the Toyota International Teacher Program and about what our trip would be like.
On Monday I had to get up at 3:45am central time, which is even earlier pacific time, to catch a flight. We flew from San Antonio to Houston and then to San Jose, Costa Rica. We arrived and were very tired, but managed the energy to go on a really awesome walking tour. I learned so much about San Jose and took lots of interesting pictures.
Please look below for pictures. Third period, since you asked about McDonalds en Espanol, please check out the pictures of the first Latin American McDonalds. Can you figure out what the menu items are?
What was on the walking tour and what did you learn about San Jose? How is communicating with locals going? What are the prices like on food compared to where we live?

Mc Ds look so good right now!(:
ReplyDeleteWow I didnt know they recycle in Costa Rica too! XD
ReplyDeleteThose fries look very good right about now! Did you eat in Mcdonalds, Ms. Stephens? Their Mcdonalds seems pretty similar to ours except for the building layout. And the money is completely different, you should talk about their money compared to ours once you return back to Washington, I'm curious! Hope the weathers good for you in Costa Rica while it rains here in Washington! Have fun!

Hi SD!
ReplyDeleteI learned about some historical places dowtown. I learned that CR has a central bank and that many tico (Costa Rican) bank there because it is government insured. Some still use banks like HBSC (where I changed money) because there's more possibility for returns on investments. In front of the bank was this amazing set of statues of peasants without shoes because at some point the goverment said all people had to wear shoes. The people looked sad because they didn't have shoes, so the statue was very striking. I saw lots of people milling about in parks because most people enjoy meeting up with friends in spaces like this. In one park there were tons of parrots swooping about and making noise. That's my favorite part of traveling... just trying to get the pulse of a place and seeing everyday stuff like this.
Hi MKN!
ReplyDeleteI try not to eat fast food, but I agree those fries looked pretty good!
I didn't eat there. The currency are colones and they are worth about 500 for 1 US$. To give you an idea of what that means (and because I mostly have seen fast food ads), a Wendy's large cheeseburger is 1050c, which is a little more than $2. I'll know more about how it compares when I return.
Mc Papas!!! I'm going to order all my fries that way from now on.

The first picture on here makes me think of the McDonald's I see in Spain. With big windows and advertisements including prices posted big for all to see, unlike in the US where they just have little posters. I wonder what the reason for that may be, possibly because they seem to be in the city. Do you know any other reason for why this may be?
