Thanksgiving

We had a Thanksgiving surprise. These characters in giant heads showed up to dance with us. It was truly unforgettable.

  2. Those costumnes are really intresting. Are the relatively random, or is there some cultural meaning to them?

  3. This looks like a blast! Definately not the same thanksgiving that you would get back at home! What kind of food did they serve you? Traditional?
Also, what's the weather been like since you've been there? Does it fluctuate a lot or is it fairly consistant?
    Looks like fun!

  5. I like how you can see someone's eyes in the neck of the dude with Dr. Stephens. is there a reason why they showed up and wanted to dance? Like, maybe a Thanksgiving tradition there?

  9. Their masks are fantastic, did they craft them themselves? And what would you say is the most interesting thing you have come across on your trip?

  10. Hi SMS,

No, I think they were purchased. Yesterday was the best. We had a chocolate workshop on how cacao is grown and made into chocolate. Then at night we mist netted for bats and caught 2 fruit eating bats! You can only imagine how happy that made me!

    See you soon,

  13. KO,

They live within their means and the majority don't have a lot. At the same time, and by happiness indices, they seem like a much happier culture than ours.

  14. A.D.,

There isn't a Thanksgiving in Costa Rica. The masks were adopted from Spanish culture, but have been morphed to fit Costa Rican folk lore and stories.
