Peeping Tom

Today I heard some noise outside my hotel window and was greeted by this bird trying to crack a nut on the window and window sill.

It's one of those situations where I'm not sure who is watching whom. It's a Hoffman's woodpecker.

  5. AAM, no, I think it's mostly this bird. It was cool to get to spend a few minutes watching this woodpecker.

EH, it is raining right now very hard, so it's not great weather for bird watching. I did see a great kiskadee and a passerine tanager. It was too wet to use my camera, so you'll have to google those to see how amazing they are!

HG, I saw a 3-toed sloth, but it was curled up in a ball taking a nap in the rain. I was excited to see it through binoculars, but again too wet (and far away) to photograph.

  12. do you know why the woodpecker was trying to crack a nut on the window? most birds don't understand that they're solid and fly into them, so it seems odd that this one would have so much faith in its rigidity that it would try to crack a nut on one rather than on another surface!
